Old-school fishball noodles and yong tau foo at Zion Riverside, loved for handmade fishballs and a unique sweet-salty sauce.

Hui Ji Restaurant is a long-standing stall at Zion Riverside Food Centre, originally hailing from the old Seng Poh Market in Tiong Bahru. What sets Hui Ji apart is its distinctive sauce — a sweet, fish-sauce-tinged blend that's unlike your conventional fishball noodle dressing, paired with crunchy pork lard that elevates every bite. The handmade fishballs are small, rustic, and springy, bearing the telltale grooves of being shaped by hand rather than machine.

Bowls are priced at $3 and $4, offering excellent value for the quality. You can order fishball noodles on their own or customise with yong tau foo items like fried beancurd skin, tau pok, fish cake, and fish ngoh hiang, all smothered in that winning sweet sauce. The stall opens from early morning through lunch, and while the queue has shortened in recent years, it still draws a loyal crowd who know a good thing when they taste it.
